Tregaron Chinese Classes Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival
From Tregaron Chinese teachers Christy Nong and Allie Liu: "On Friday, May 30, students enrolled in the Tregaron Chinese program celebrated the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival with a hands-on mini dragon boat workshop on campus. The activity helped students explore the festival’s origins, which honor the ancient poet Qu Yuan, and learn how dragon boat racing has become a global tradition.
We were thrilled to welcome George Kaye, a WIS parent and professional bamboo toy designer, who led the workshop on making model dragon boats. Mr. Kaye guided students through the design and building process, patiently answering questions and encouraging creative thinking. Many students showed great interest in design and craftsmanship, and were proud to successfully launch their boats.
Students also enjoyed tasting traditional zongzi, sticky rice dumplings eaten during the festival. They tried northern-style red bean zongzi, many for the first time, and loved the experience.
This meaningful event helped students connect with Chinese culture through stories, food, and hands-on learning, making the Dragon Boat Festival a memorable day at WIS."
