Sustainability Highlighted During WIS Earth Week 2025

From April 21–25, WIS celebrated Earth Week in myriad ways! On both campuses, there was a focus on reducing single-use waste and encouraging more recycling and reuse of materials. Addtionally, both campuses turned off the lights and as many electronics as possible in the afternoon on April 24, in order to reduce our carbon footprint.

Upper School students held an upcycling clothing swap, where they were encouraged to reuse items and materials instead of buying new.

The Middle School Roots & Shoots Club spent time trying to reunite lost-and-found items with their owners—and met with great success!

Primary School ISU members and some younger students have formed a "Green Team," where they help their peers sort compostable food, recycling, and trash at the end of each lunch period.

On April 23, 24, and 25 during recess, local artist Tim Kime came to the Primary School to lead several workshops for students. Tim had the students transform recycled materials into sea creatures, water, and sand, which he used to create a mural on the first floor of the Primary School.

We are excited about these steps our community has taken to become more sustainable and look forward to making more progress in the weeks and years to come!

Thank you to everyone who did their part this week, and beyond!
