Washington International School’s athletics program embodies the mission, philosophy and objectives of the School and fosters the development of character, life skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Physical education programs are an important part of the weekly program for students from Preschool to Grade 12. After school programs also allow Primary School students an opportunity to explore their interest in sports. Middle and Upper School teams compete in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference (PVAC), a league consisting of private schools in the DC metropolitan area.

UPDATE ON ATHLETICS FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

January 2021: The PVAC met in a virtual setting to discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on the league’s plans to move forward with winter interscholastic competition (basketball and swimming). After discussions, the directors determined it is still not safe to hold these sports. Therefore the winter sports season is cancelled for the current school year.  The PVAC continues to evaluate the possibility of holding abbreviated seasons for sports traditionally played in fall and spring.

The Athletics Department has scheduled opportunities for students to take part in small-group activities/skill sessions. The schedule is available on the Athletics Calendar. Please note these activities are currently available only to Middle School students, as Mayor Bowser has imposed a health emergency (until March 17, 2021) that precludes high school extra-curricular sports activities. The restriction applies to public, private, and parochial schools.
