Upper School students maintain a rich extracurricular life, with opportunities for acting, singing, and dancing in dramatic and musical productions or chorus; playing instruments as part of the band or jazz ensembles; and/or becoming a member of one or more sports teams. The Upper School student government (International Students United) holds dances, fundraisers, and other activities throughout the year; the Honor Council offers additional possibilities for student leadership.
Students are required to perform a minimum of 80 hours of service in Grades 9 through 12. Students are encouraged to connect service opportunities with their personal interests; they volunteer in the local, national, and international communities.
A sample list of student-organized clubs is available by expanding the blue bar below. Clubs that have been active at WIS for several years include the Global Issues Network, Model UN, Amnesty International, International Dateline (the student newspaper), and the Pride Alliance.
