Health and Wellness

Washington International School is committed not only to our mission of being an exemplary learning community, but also to ensuring the mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being of our students.

The Student Support Team's goal is to ensure that all students are able to achieve their academic potential, that student academic and social-emotional needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner, and that students are supported through a collaborative network of educational personnel and programs.

Please see the relevant pages for more detail regarding Primary School, Middle School, and Upper School student support.

A fully staffed Health Office is located in the Primary School and on the Tregaron Campus.

For more information on WIS’s health policies, please consult the
Community Handbook, available to current WIS families via the Parent Portal.

Health care on both campuses includes provision of acute care, management of chronic health conditions and activities focused on preventive health, health maintenance, and health education. The Nurses work collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide a holistic approach to care. The American Nurses’ Association “Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice” and the “Standards of School Nurse Practice” guide the practices and decision-making. The Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines for infectious and communicable diseases guide the practices for those situations.
