By 1989, WIS had been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools as well as the European Council of Independent Schools. This was an important recognition of the school's professionalism. When Dexter Lewis assumed the role of Head of School in 1989, the school had surpassed enrollment of 600 students. The primary challenge of Dexter's tenure was managing the increasing financial needs of the expanding institution.
