Design

In all three divisions—Primary, Middle, Upper—students have the opportunity to create and design through hands-on and computer-based activities.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Design Lab is open to students during recess, featuring monthly themes such as coding, construction, circuits and electricity, film-making and fabric & textiles. Studio equipment includes robots (Dash and Dots, BeeBots), construction materials (Kapla blocks), a 3-D printer, Little Bits (circuits), a large magnetic whiteboard, and a tool chest.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Design Technology is a favorite elective for Middle School students, as are Digital Media electives specific to each grade. Other classes use the Middle School Makerspace for special projects, and Minimester typically includes several design-oriented seminars. Maker Mondays, Take-Apart Tuesdays, and Robotics Club are also popular.

Upper School

The rigorous IB Diploma Design Technology courses offers students interested in pursuing degrees in architecture or engineering hands-on experience prior to college. Grades 9-10 electives include: Digital Design; Photography and Film; Design Technology; Computer Systems, Programming and Robotics.
