Language and Exchange Programs

All of our 8th grade students participate in a week-long exchange program with a school in the French- or Spanish-speaking world.  Through host family stays and a curriculum-based cultural and study program, students are well prepared to take on the rigors of the high school level language classes. Our students and their families then host their host students from the partner schools, cementing friendships and extending the exchange experience.  Plans are already underway to provide a similar experience for our Dutch students and for students in the new intensive Chinese language program .

Through the ASSIST (American Secondary Schools for International Students and Teachers) a nonprofit educational and cultural exchange organization that sponsors student and teacher exchange among 14 countries and the United States, WIS has been privileged to host six students over the past five years. Students have come from China, Lithuania, and Moldova, among others.
