Center for International Education
The Center for International Education (CIE) began in 2003 as a strategic initiative of Washington International School to develop a center to promote educational initiatives that will support global understanding. Since that time, the center has recruited leadership, formulated a mission and goals, and undertaken two successful programs. The following will serve as an introduction of the center, its goals and its plans for the future.
Mission
The Center for International Education (CIE) at Washington International School is an educational initiative to assist public and non-public schools to bring a greater international focus to their programs, resulting in more globally aware and responsive students.
Goals
- To inspire teachers to integrate global issues into their teaching
- To provide web-based resources, including innovative curriculum materials for teachers focusing on these global issues
- To develop a network of teachers and administrators working together on program initiatives for their schools
- To lead teams of teachers, administrators, and students to developing regions of the world where they will learn and serve and build partnerships with other schools and programs
- To empower school teams to take action in responding to the social and
environmental challenges in our world, both in and outside the classroom
