Center for International Education
Washington International
School launched its Center
for International Education
(CIE) in 2003 to promote
educational initiatives in support
of understanding critical global
issues. Since that time, CIE has
demonstrated leadership among
public and private schools in
the United States and among
international schools worldwide.
Mission
CIE develops and implements programs to complement the School’s efforts to instill
a spirit of engagement in young people by promoting contemporary awareness,
responsible and effective world citizenship and an orientation toward the future.
Goals
- To inspire our teachers to integrate global issues into their teaching
- To provide web-based resources, including innovative curriculum materials for teachers focusing on these global issues
- To develop a network of teachers and administrators working together on program initiatives
- To lead teams of teachers, administrators and students to developing and developed regions of the world and to where they will learn, serve and build partnerships with other schools and programs
- To use cutting-edge technology to inspire students to learn and collaborate on online platforms
- To develop quality enrichment programs for WIS communities that enhance international components of curriculum
CIE also works together with schools throughout the Washington area—public, independent, and charter—providing opportunities to internationalize curricula and to foster student action, locally, nationally and internationally. Programs such as the fall Symposium, “A Call to Learning and Action,” summer trips with a focus on leaning and service, and a summer Institute to educate students and teachers about critical global issues provide an opportunity for schools to come together to learn, network and empower students to make a difference.
