In the early years, WIS had made a choice to focus on soccer rather than American football. The WIS Red Devils had consistently been strong competitors in the PVAC. There was much to celebrate when WIS soccer teams first played on the new regulation-size pitch in 2008. In October 2009, the school held a ceremony to name Ulysses G. Auger II Field in honor of the trustee who had played an extraordinary role in the building development program for many years.
