Middle and Upper Schools
Extracurricular activities at WIS offer an important balance to academic work and a welcome chance for students to explore and cultivate personal interests.
Middle and Upper School students maintain a rich extracurricular life, with opportunities for acting, singing and dancing in dramatic and musical productions or chorus; playing instruments as part of the band or jazz ensembles; and/or becoming a member of one or more sports teams (at least 60% of Middle and Upper School students play on at least one athletic team). Middle School students have the opportunity to join the Student Council; the Upper School student government (International Students United) holds dances, fundraisers and other activities throughout the year.
There are also numerous student-organized clubs—a sample list is included on this page. In addition to Yearbook, students may also hone their writing skills by working on the student newspaper International Dateline or by submitting articles to the Student News Action Network, a global student journalism platform.
