Confucius Classrooms Network

In 2010, WIS was selected as one of the 20 pilot schools in the Hanban Asia Society Confucius Classrooms Network. As a member of the Network, WIS demonstrates its commitment to serving as a model for Chinese language and culture education in the United States.

Students may begin to study Chinese (Mandarin) in sixth grade, with the goal of enabling 11th and 12th grade students to select Chinese as part of their International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

Network members partner with schools in China to facilitate learning, both virtually and through student/teacher exchanges. As part of the exchange program, WIS students visited our partner school, the Experimental High School (EHS) affiliated with Beijing Normal University, in summer 2010 and summer 2011. The trips included home stays, a series of Chinese language and culture classes, and travel to cultural sites within Beijing as well as to Tianjin and Xi'An.
