Age Requirements

The age of the applicant is an important factor in determining grade placement. The age requirements listed below should be considered when applying to WIS.

If your child is applying to:	Applicant must be:
Pre-Kindergarten-3	3 years old by June 1
Pre-Kindergarten-4	4 years old by September 1
Kindergarten	5 years old by September 1
Grade 1	6 years old by September 1
Grade 2 and above	Considered individually if age differs form the usual age span of the students in the class.

In Pre-Kindergarten, no exceptions are made for children whose birthdays fall after these deadlines.

In Kindergarten through Grade 1, rare exceptions are made for children whose birthdays fall less than one month after the age cut-off, and then only after careful consideration.

Placement of children with birthdays in the summer months leading up to the September 1 cut-off is also considered on a case-by-case basis.
