Washington International School invites you to rent our Middle/Upper School campus for your event during non-school hours.
Location
Tregaron is a gated, hilltop estate in Cleveland Park (north of the National Zoo). The mansion and grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
History
In 1912, the family of Alexander Graham Bell sold the property to Cleveland banker James Parmelee, who commissioned architect Charles Adams Platt to design the neo-Georgian mansion and grounds. Originally called “The Causeway,” the estate was purchased in 1940 by Ambassador Joseph Davies and his wife, Marjorie Merriweather Post, upon their return from Russia, and re-named Tregaron (Welsh for “village of three wells”). Washington International School acquired Tregaron in 1980. More historical information, including a book, is available at www.kirstinelarsen.com.
Description
The three-story, neo-Georgian mansion features a welcoming interior Foyer with pillars, high ceilings and brass chandelier, an ivory marble floor leading to a grand carpeted staircase with lattice railing. Directly ahead is the Terrace Room which opens to an expansive outdoor canopied terrace overlooking Klingle Valley. To the right is Davies Hall. Both rooms feature pecan-wood paneling, dark green marble fireplaces, and parquet floors. There is a baby grand piano in Davies Hall. Click here to see a floor plan of the mansion. For outdoor events, guests can enjoy the Carriage House Courtyard, Dacha and Garden, and Mansion Patios. There is also an informal picnic area with picnic tables and buffet grill on the west end of campus. Tents are permitted in several areas.
